Reablement Case Study: Live-in care to visiting care.
We are so proud of the work we do and the support we offer and we’re pleased to share how we have recently helped a client live more independently.
At the end of 2022 we started a package of care for a client (CB), who has learning disabilities and is unable to read and write – he was originally in a care home due to his own home falling into disrepair and needing significant refurbishment.
He ended up being in the care home for quite some time, and he was desperate to get back to his own home so he could be back in his familiar environment.
When he returned home he had no working television due to it being very old, and he didn’t have a TV aerial. He had been so looking forward to returning home, only to find that everything had changed and it left him feeling extremely low.
We provided CB with live-in care – He was unsure about sharing his home with someone else, especially because he likes his own company. However, our live-in carer helped CB to go out to the shops, which was something he’d always loved doing, and he particularly likes to look around the charity shops.
Thanks to our Abicare staff, we were also able to lend him a TV and a dvd player so that he could watch the dvd’s he has, which has made a huge difference to his quality of life.
CB lives in a very remote area so our carer found out local bus timetables and destinations as well as organising a bus pass for him.
With the encouragement of the carer he became better at carrying out his own personal care and was given lots of encouragement to socialise. He now goes to a day centre a couple of days a week, which he really enjoys, and at the end of August 2023 he will transition from requiring live-in care to visiting care thanks to the fantastic reablement care he has received from his live-in care team.
If you, or someone you know requires care, you can find out more on the Care Services page on our website.
