Jake’s Story

Jake’s Story

My Career Journey

I have worked in various industries in leadership roles and I am always looking to learn and develop new skills. Having joined the care industry fairly recently, I was impressed by the wide scope of roles and opportunities available, which I think is attractive to anyone with ambitions to evolve their career.

I have come from a very different background (15 years in banking) and I’ll admit the transition was a challenge. Working with people is similar in any industry, but the difference in care is that what you do and the decisions you make have a profound impact on people and their families. You get to see the positive impact that you and your team have made.

Why did I join Abicare?

I have a passion for live-in care and found the Abicare history and values really inspiring. The drive to help individuals achieve better independence in their own homes aligned to my own drive and I felt there was a culture within the business that would really help to achieve that.

Why have I stayed with Abicare?

The people! We all support each other and I have nothing but admiration for the great work our teams do every day.

If you’re prepared to work hard and embrace new challenges then the sense of achievement is like no other career. Not many people can go home every day and feel like they’ve made a real tangible difference to someone’s life. The best part of my job is visiting client’s and seeing the interactions with their carers.

There are some great opportunities across the Abicare team and a wide support structure, so go for it!
