Movember – Men’s Health Awareness Month 2020

It’s that time again! In the month of November, why not take part in Movember!

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, and The Movember Foundation, the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, runs the yearly Movember charity event to raise awareness of the crisis of men’s health.

Statistics show that on average men are dying 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons.

  • Mental health and suicide prevention – Around the world, 6 out of 10 suicides are men, and on average 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day.

Movember focuses on prevention, early intervention and health promotion. https://uk.movember.com/about/mental-health

  • Prostate Cancer – In the UK, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and it is the most common cancer in men.  When it comes to prostate cancer, Movember is focused on fighting back. https://uk.movember.com/about/prostate-cancer
  • Testicular Cancer –  This is the most common cancer affecting young men (aged 15-39) in the UK- The odds of survival for men with testicular cancer is over 95%, but long term treatment can come with many side effects that have a huge impact on quality of life. Movember aims to halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer and to halve the number of men facing serious and ongoing side effects from treatment. https://uk.movember.com/about/testicular-cancer

This November, there are so many ways that you can get involved – Of course, there’s growing a moustache and becoming a Mo Bro, or if you’re female and you know someone who is taking part then support them and become a Mo Sister.
