Companionship Care
Companionship, especially amongst the elderly, is essential for mental wellbeing and general health. Many older people, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, feel frightened and isolated – this can lead to many mental health issues such as depression, insomnia and stress.
According to Age UK, nearly a million older people in the UK go for more than a month without speaking to anyone.
The benefits of companionship:
Having someone to interact with and talk to can really make an older person’s day – making them feel valued and part of society, and it’s a great way to make an older person feel motivated about the day ahead.
For an older person, having someone to interact with or talk to is great for mental stimulation and having an engaging conversation, such as reminiscing about the past or sharing their stories, can really help make them feel more enthusiastic about life again and that they still have a voice that is worth hearing.
What we offer:
With our live-in companionship service you can spend as little or as much one-on-one time as you would like with your carer, giving you the opportunity to take part in activities and interests of your choice. This could be something as simple as playing a game of cards, dominoes, a board game, or being read to. Or perhaps you’d just like to have a good old natter with your carer about the things that interest you most/are important to you.
Our companionship services include the following:
- walking your dog
- shopping for food
- taking you to leisure activities / visiting a community centre
- enjoying a chat over a cup of tea
- providing company while doing crafts or hobbies
- playing games or reading to you
- encouraging and helping with exercise where appropriate
